Find Rest for Your Restless Heart

For a long time, I woke up feeling anxious. I would run through the list of possible causes, and as the busyness of the day kicked in, the anxiety would settle into the background - it wouldn’t be gone, just less dominating.

In this episode of the podcast, David, Luke, and Ben talk with Youtube influencer and atheist Finn Mckenty about his video “What Killed Christian Core?”

In his video, Finn breaks down the decline of the Christian hardcore scene and makes several interesting observations. He challenges the double standard of a secular culture that allows everyone to speak their minds except Christians. Finn criticizes Christian who lead double lives, or abuse religion for fame, wealth, or power.

During the discussion, they cover a variety of critical topics, including hypocrisy, the role of art in culture, and the existence of God.

A few days ago, the Provoke & Inspire team conducted a focus group with eight unchurched young people from the Twin Cities. When the idea was first proposed, I had my reservations. I was in the middle of a crazy summer touring season and frankly, I wasn’t sure if it would work. Yet despite my hesitations, we moved forward.

In this episode of the podcast, Luke, David, and Ben talk with influential thought leader Dr. Michael Brown. We discussed the broken sexuality of our culture, how a follower of Jesus should engage with politics, as well as how to defend the truth in a way that honors Jesus.

In this bonus episode, David and Ben react to the recent renunciations of faith by Marty Sampson and Joshua Harris and specifically look at John Cooper’s (lead singer of Christian rock band Skillet) response.

They ask critical questions about the negative impact of our culture’s glorification of youth, and whether being “real” is always right.

This is a critical conversation for every follower of Jesus.

In this episode, Ben demands an explanation for why David hates the word “balanced.”
David shares his deep conviction that nothing significant is accomplished by balanced people, with a balanced effort.
He makes the case that the life of Jesus demonstrated extraordinary effort, devotion, and faith and that if we want to change the world, we must live a similarly imbalanced life.
